What is my focus?

With teens and young adults my focus is often on navigating the challenges of high school or college, academic stress, exploring independence, and understanding the transition from child to adulthood.

High school and college are some of the most significant transition periods in life. I work with teens and young adults who are experiencing anxiety and distress from parental divorce, an upcoming graduation, social anxiety, loss, and other struggles.

Navigate Change

Explore Identity, Independence, & the Transition to Adulthood

Part of being a teenager or young adult is existing in transition. We are often being given more responsibilities, held to higher expectations, and struggling to identify what’s next for us. Wherever this new chapter of life takes us, finding out who we want to be and navigating these changes can feel overwhelming. In my work, I partner with teens and young adults to better understand where they want to go next. This includes exploring questions of shifting identity, sexuality, gender, and spirituality. We also often discuss transitions in relationships as we enter new settings like the workforce or college.

Have you ever felt yourself constantly avoiding something? You have the desire or motivation, but you feel stuck in your tracks on where to begin. Do you find yourself constantly thinking about what could go wrong? When dealing with anxiety, individuals often feel on edge and have a hard time managing the overwhelm and fear showing up in these situations. In our work together, we can explore your relationship to anxiety. Together we can better understand the ways it has kept you safe and the ways it has kept you from your goals. We will develop a collaborative plan to take small steps toward your values and the person you want to be.

Manage Anxiety & Avoidance

Often after a trauma we feel stuck. Unsure how to move forward, we can become locked in patterns and behaviors that aren’t working for us. Stepping outside of these patterns often can feel insurmountable. In our work together we can work on changing our relationship to these events, rewrite negative self talk and beliefs, and work on understanding and changing our reactions in the present to help you meet your goals. You deserve more than just surviving through it.
